Minister: European Elections a Slap in the Face for Government

Guusje ter Horst, Minister of the Interior (Labor) says that she considers the results of the European elections to be a slap in the face for the government. The ministers feel that they make efforts to improve the situation in the country, including security, but people do not appreciate and vote for an opposition party, such as Wilders’ Freedom Party. Herman Wijffels, who was the central figure in establishing the current government and who has now returned to the Netherlands after serving as the Dutch representative on the board of the World Bank, says that he has found much discomfort, bitterness and cynicism among the Dutch people.
