Illegal cannabis cultivation far larger than previously thought

Statistic Netherlands said that only 20% of weed growers are caught.  The 2015 estimate of the total contribution of illegal activities to the economy was far too low.  It has to be increased by 1.5 billion Euros to 4.8 billion Euros.

Israeli Embassy Complains about Antisemitic Song

The Israeli Embassy in the Netherlands has complained about the satirical song with several antisemitic stereotypes produced by the socialist broadcaster BNN-Vara.  Also, the Israeli Documentation and Information Center (CIDI) has criticized the song full of hilarious jokes about Jews and money.  The broadcaster denies the antisemitic character despite the stereotypes about Jews and money.

Antisemitic Cabaret Program on Dutch Socialist Television

A cabaret program on the Dutch Socialist VARA television by Sanne Wallis de Vries has used Israel's Eurovision winning song as a parody. Her text contains antisemitic motifs such as jokes about Jews and money. It also accuses Israel of using Buk rockets which Israel does not have. These rockets were used to bring down a plane of mainly Dutch passengers in the  Ukraine. They all died.

Police attempt to recruit non-Muslims to participate in Iftar

Dutch police in Apeldoorn attempt to recruit non-Muslims to participate in an Iftar meal which takes place during the Muslim month of Ramadan.  This led to criticism because it was considered a sign of lack of neutrality which is expected from the Police.

Parliamentarians inquire about nepotism in public prosecution

A number of MP’s want an explanation from Justice Minister Ferdinand Grapperhaus about secret romantic relationships among public prosecution officials.  The NRC daily, has reported that two prosecutors were promoted to chief prosecutors by a prosecutor they had a romantic relationship with. A chief prosecutor said to the newspaper anonymously that “colleagues feel unsafe and they no longer dare to criticize each other.” This has led to a breach of trust within the offices of public prosecutors.

Two Jewish Organizations File Complaint against Antisemitism of Former Prime Minister’s Organization

The Jewish umbrella organization, CJO, and the youth organization of CIDI have entered a police complaint against an organization founded by former Dutch Prime Minister, Dries van Agt.  They claim that the organization, TRF, structurally permits antisemitic reactions on their website.

Six near misses between drones and aircrafts in Dutch airspace in 2017

There have been six near misses last year between drones and aircrafts.  One of these concerned a Boeing 737 near Rotterdam.  In 2016, airline pilots warned that stronger regulations regarding drones were needed to keep Dutch airspace safe for aviation.
